Ohio paper honored among state's best

The Ironton Tribune continues to prove it isn’t only the large metropolitan newspapers that can create a quality product that serves the community and is recognized by its peers.

The Tribune, an approximately 6,000 circulation, six-day-a-week newspaper in the southernmost point of Ohio, continues to refine its local-intensive content, making it one of the Ohio Associated Press’ most recognized community papers.

“We don’t come to work each day thinking about winning awards but it is nice for the entire team’s hard work to be recognized,” Publisher Michael Caldwell said. “For some people, the perception was that small, family owned community papers couldn’t achieve the same level of quality or relevance the big chains can. That simply isn’t true.

“We focus on finding the stories that affect our community and providing the news, entertainment and information the people want.”

The newspaper has been honored as the best community newspaper in Ohio three of the past four years and is still in the running for 2007’s honor. This past year’s total of 14 awards was another successful year in terms of editorial honors, continuing the paper’s best 5-year span in its history with more than 75 awards since 2004.

“The Tribune may not have as large a staff as some other papers but we feel we are testament of what can be accomplished with talented individuals who work hard and really care for the community.”
