    The Butler County News was first published on Thanksgiving Day, 1911, in Georgiana, Ala., by Roger Pride Sr. who was the editor and publisher until his death in March 1957. Roger W. Pride Jr. assumed his father’s position as editor and publisher until the publication’s sale to Boone Newspapers in 1997.

    The newspaper was published in Georgiana until 1971 when Pride began using the Greenville Advocate’s press in Greenville, until the press was disassembled in conjunction with The Advocate’s sale to Boone Newspapers. The Butler County News is now printed in Clanton, Ala., along with Greenville Newspapers’ other publications, The Greenville Advocate, The Luverne Journal, The Lowndes Signal and the Butler Express.

    Circulation

    Published every Thursday, 525 circulation; Companion shopper is the Butler Express, 8,250 circulation.

    Georgiana, the newspaper’s primary coverage area, is located on Interstate 65 approximately 55 miles from Montgomery.

    Georgiana is home to the Hank Williams Sr. Boyhood Home and Museum. Nearby Sherling Lake Park offers camping and fishing; and Greenville is home of three golf courses, including Cambrian Ridge, a stop on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
