The Blackbelt Gazette, which strives, to be “Your Hometown Newspaper,” launched its first publication on July 2, 2003 with Inda Pugh as owner/publisher. Begun as a general circulation newspaper with 8,500 copies distributed each Wednesday, it covers the news, sports, and social events in Marengo County, Alabama. The Blackbelt Gazette chronicles the lives and events that help shape the history in west Alabama.

In June 2006, Boone Publications LLC purchased The Blackbelt Gazette and Inda Pugh and James B. Boone, Jr. formed Blackbelt Publications, LLC, parent company of The Blackbelt Gazette.
